“It was like a thousand paper cuts.”

This was how one of my clients described his experience meeting with a bank representative in order to close his deceased wife’s checking account. “I had to sit there and listen to her say over and over again, ‘she’s deceased, she’s deceased’ as she was passed from person to person within her organization. “It was brutal.”

Luckily for him that was the last time he had to experience this. Since then, I’ve been working with him in my capacity as an After-Loss Professional to close out the remaining items in his wife’s estate.

What is an After-Loss Professional?

An After-Loss Professional helps clients who have lost a loved one manage administrative tasks with one-on-one customized support and logistical services. We prioritize, streamline, and complete the myriad of tasks that people face after the death of a loved one. From Executor/ Administrator support, to closing accounts and filing paperwork, to estate clean out project management, after-loss professionals are there every step of the way.

After-Loss professionals are not licensed medical, legal, or financial professionals but work closely with these advisors.

Why hire an After-Loss Professional?

In addition to shielding our clients from having to re-live the death of their loved one as described above, after-loss professionals bring years of knowledge and experience dealing with the array of tasks and challenges that are part of closing an estate after someone dies. For many of our clients, managing the tasks associated with a death is not something they have been exposed to before. But for an after-loss professional, simply put, this is not our first rodeo. We know what needs to be done and how to get it done, leaving our clients the time and the room they need to grieve.

How do you find an After-Loss Professional and what does one cost?

I am pleased to be part of growing national network of After-Loss Professionals, Professionals of After-Loss Services, and they have a directory of providers who are working throughout the country. Each of us prices our services a bit differently, some offering package rates for services, others billing hourly, or by project.

I price my services either hourly or as a package, depending on need.

Feel free to contact me at kim@gooddeathmatters.com if you’d like to learn more about what services I offer and/or about After-Loss Professionals in general.
